Combining leaf prints, brush strokes, drips and splatters, I create wonderfully messy paintings. Nature is messy. Being human is messy. Walking the trails around my home, I am continually inspired by how nature turns the clutter of life: growth, disturbance, and decay into something beautiful. I observe communities of organisms, especially the ferns, moss, lichen, and fungus. These tiny landscapes offer me perspective, perhaps even a view old enough to have been shared by the dinosaurs. This view reconnects me to our living planet and grounds me within a moment in time and space. Like humanity, nature is a glorious tangle of successes, failures, and unknowns. All of us, always adapting, evolving, and looking for a path forward.
